You Have 2 Choices

Most people’s mental image of their future is based on past experiences.
Only problem is, these past experiences give us a completely inaccurate picture of our future.
Let me explain.
If you’ve been a subscriber for any length of time, you’ve heard me tell the story of how my wife divorced me back in 1995 because she had no faith in me.
She thought I’d fail at running my own business, and didn’t want to stick around and see it happen.
And though her decision had nothing to do with me personally, it still had a drastic impact on my self esteem.
In fact, for the first year in my new business venture, I did nothing but lose money on a daily basis.
At one point I can remember thinking to myself, “Wow, your wife was right. You’re a miserable failure in business. Maybe you don’t have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur”.
You see…
At that time, I was letting a past negative experience (my ex-wife leaving me) dictate my future actions.
Now how idiotic is that?!
But the truth is, you’ve done this to yourself as well.
Think about it for a minute.
How many times have you shared an idea, dream or goal with someone, only to have them shoot you down?
Then, as a result of their comments, you immediately put the idea out of your mind, never to think about it again.
Heck, we’ve all done it (on more than one occasion).
Because I let past negative experiences dictate my future in business, my first year was a miserable failure.
But thankfully, that’s not where this story ends:
Fortunately I met a gentleman that gave me the help I needed.
One of the most important lessons he taught me was the fact that these past negative experiences have absolutely no bearing on my future.
Up until this point, I had subconsciously agreed with my ex-wife and her assessment that I couldn’t be successful in business.
As a result, all of my actions followed suit, and sure enough, I was a failure at everything I tried.
But once I discovered that her assessment didn’t have anything to do with reality, I was able to take control of my own future.
And within two years, I had an income that would make most heart surgeons blush.
And I’ll let you in on another secret that I’ve never shared with anyone before.
As a result of my wife leaving me in 1995, I subconsciously felt that no other woman would want to be with me either.
As a result, I avoided getting in a serious relationship for almost eight years.
Is that crazy, or what?
Looking back, I can hardly believe that I allowed my ex-wife’s insecurities control my own destiny for so many years.
Funny thing though…
Once I discovered that my past experiences have absolutely nothing to do with my future, every area of my life began to flourish.
I even met the woman of my dreams.
And the funny thing is, Lisa has been my biggest fan, ever since the day I met her back in 2003.
And I gotta say…
After spending almost two years with Lisa, I’m not about to let her go.
In fact, the two of us were married on August 20th and I’m totally fired up about spending the rest of my life with her.
So ask yourself, “Have I let past negative experiences control my life”?
If your answer was “Yes”, at least now you know that it ain’t gotta be that way.
Your past experiences do NOT control your future. You, and only you, are in control of your future.
