Recently my step son, Adam, was chosen to
play in the Snohomish County All-Star
baseball game.
As you can imagine, I was one proud parent!
And to make things even better, he was the
only one chosen from his high school ball
team.
Now I gotta be honest, I knew Adam was an
awesome ball player (and center fielder),
but this certainly confirmed my beliefs.
And let me tell you, it was a real treat to
go to the Everett Aquasocks Stadium and watch
my son play ball with the best of the best.
I watched the game with excitement, knowing
that Adam would have the opportunity to
advance to the state All-Star team… if the
scouts liked his performance.
And truth be told, Adam did really well, as
did the rest of the team.
When the game was over, the scoreboard showed
a 7-2 victory.
I just knew Adam was going to be one of the
ten players chosen to advance to the State
team.
So… you can imagine my disappointment, when
Adam was in fact not chosen to advance.
I figured he’d be pretty disappointed as well.
But you know what?
I was wrong!
When Adam came walking up the ramp after the
game, he had a huge smile on his face.
As he approached me, he says “That was the
most awesome experience of my life. I just got
to play a game with the best ball players in
the area!”
“Yes you did”, I said, “and it was just as
exciting for me to watch. I wouldn’t have missed
it for the world”.
And in that moment, Adam taught me a valuable
lesson.
You see, even though he didn’t move on to the
next round, he already had a major
accomplishment in his life.
And now it was time to bask in his success, which
is exactly what he was doing.
In my own life I sometimes get so caught up in the
goals I’m trying to reach, that I fail to recognize
all the accomplishments and successes I’ve already
had.
And you too have had successes that need to be
acknowledged.
Oh sure, you may not be where you want to be in
life, but rest assured, your past experiences have
